Oblivious to what community meant when I was young, I understand now the power it has on our mental health. I've always thought people were innately born with empathy however , I’ve come to realize this is not true, this is why I search for opportunities to give back.
In 2009 I lived in Dayton, Oregon, and after creating a greater sense of community I found a space where I can contribute with my skills. Working alongside Dayton Church leaders, my partner and volunteers we were able to successfully provide Dayton residents with a holiday photo event.
We were able to provide families with one free image, and options to purchase prints which 30% of those profits would be donated to the church. The turn out was overwhelming, and I felt like the sense of community grew in Dayton that day.
