Guided by my personal experiences of identity, community, and storytelling, I decided to conduct primary and secondary research on the traumatic effects immigration has on young immigrant adults. With results taking form in both web and print, these are the outcomes:

The mere mention of the word thesis made Freshman quiver and instill a fear that honestly is completely unnecessary. I have come to realize that a thesis is an opportunity to showcase the knowledge and tenacity college students posses to pursue their passion in higher education. A thesis paper is a choice to dig deep and reflect on your personal life story. For me, it was the chance to dismantle the years of trauma and doubt growing up in the U.S. as a person of color.

Feeling accomplished the term prior I was ecstatic to begin Thesis II. Winter term brought new challenges and growing opportunities. By using readymag.com I was able to merge the research I obtained in fall term into a live online space with elegant transitions, a balance of deconstructed and constructed grid layout, and created stunning introductions for each participant. A big focus on the photography and powerful quotes was taken intro consideration for a better user experience.

The final phase of my thesis was to migrate the information to print. A milestone experience for me since it was not a copy-paste situation. With the same user experience priority in mind, I created a magazine that balanced both image and context respectfully. The use of white space is representative of the freedom these words deserve to be read in. Because we are largely incapable of choosing which language we speak I decided to treated languages equally with no need of translation to remove language-privilege.
